Description
A nice Victorian era carved newel post with original attached railing.
This antique staircase piece is finely crafted and features a detailed newel
post which remains attached to a small section of staircase hand railing.
The newel post measures 41" tall by 5.5" wide by 5.5" deep.
The post has tall vertical carved lines on the sides and round carved circles
on each side of the top and carved corners.
The width of the entire base is 26.5".
The tall edge if the railing side measures 60.5" tall.
The hand railing has a rounded ridge down the center and it alone measures
3.5" wide.
The unique cut outs on the side of the railing are 10" tall by 5" wide.
The old paint in tones of white and off white has bubbled in several places
which would likely come off easily with an old varnish underneath.
You can see on one side where it was built into a short staircase.
This piece weights nearly 48 pounds and is rather sturdy and solid as a single
piece.
Various old nails are evident on the base and tall side from the original
installation.
This architectural salvage newel post and stair railing would work well to
complete your antique stair case restoration project. A great retrofit project.
